The National Capital Commission (NCC) erected an information kiosk for exploring the Shirleys Bay area. NCC lot P1 is at the north end of Rifle Road, along the south shore of the Ottawa River. On the edge of the parking lot, the kiosk offers learning about biology, geography and history.

There are two relevant information panels. This one describes the transformation from the sterile ground at the time of glaciation to the present situation which includes 87 regionally rare plant species.

Another information panel is titled Fish Habitat and the Aquatic Ecosystem. That panel describes the ecosystem in this section of the Ottawa River, Shirleys Bay.
