This is a limestone sculpture of the two titular chess pieces, which was part of a "chessman" series by sculptor Nita Sunderland. Another member of the series is located nearby.

The Public Art at UCF guide states that the series "reflects her ongoing interest in parallels between medieval and contemporary society".
