He was born circa 1516 at Hole, possibly living at Hole House (visit link) .
For centuries, the Branscombe Holcombe family has been inaccurately referred to as the “Holcombs of Hull.” The “Hull” epithet has puzzled genealogists for generations, since most of the Holcomb genealogical documents are centered in Devon, far away from the city of Hull. The family actually dwelt for 400 or more years in a manor called “Hole House” which stands to this day in Branscombe, Devon.
