Old Alton Cemetery was established by the first burials here in 1852. Some history of the cemetery can be read at the historical marker on the south side of the cemetery. Alton Baptist Church was organized in 1855, and the small church here today was constructed in 1904. A modern church is to the north, and Old Alton Church now serves as a chapel and a venue for special events such as weddings.

There are many old grave markers here. This marker, for Billy Moore, reads:
