" Eise Eisinga werd op 21 februari 1744 in Dronrijp geboren. Daar volgde hij ook de lagere school. Zoals veel kinderen in die tijd moest hij thuis komen werken, in zijn geval in de wolkammerij van zijn vader. Naast het wolkammen nam hij van zijn vader de interesse over voor zaken als sterrenkunde en wiskunde.

Op 24-jarige leeftijd trouwde Eisinga met Pietje Jacobs, waarna hij zich in 1768 als wolkammer in Franeker vestigde.

Zijn grote kennis van de wis- en sterrenkunde kwam Eisinga goed van pas toen in mei 1774 onrust uitbrak naar aanleiding van de voorspelling van Eelco Alta. Om de mensen een juist beeld van het zonnestelsel te geven bouwde hij in zijn woonkamer een model van het zonnestelsel. Tussen zijn allereerste idee en de uiteindelijke realisatie verstreken zeven jaar. Sinds 1781 volgt het model van Eisinga zeer nauwkeurig de banen van de 6 planeten uit ons zonnestelsel. Daarmee is het het oudste planetarium ter wereld dat nog werkt."

Eise Eisinga was born on February 21, 1744 in Dronrijp. He also attended primary school there. Like many children at the time, he had to come home to work, in his case in his father's wool combing workshop. In addition to wool combing, he took over his father's interest in things such as astronomy and mathematics.

At the age of 24, Eisinga married Pietje Jacobs, after which he settled in Franeker as a wool comber in 1768.

His great knowledge of mathematics and astronomy came in handy for Eisinga when, in May 1774, unrest broke out over Eelco Alta's prediction. To give people an accurate picture of the solar system, he built a model of the solar system in his living room. Seven years passed between his very first idea and its final realization. Since 1781, Eisinga's model has closely followed the orbits of the 6 planets in our solar system. This makes it the oldest working planetarium in the world.
