" Situé au coeur de la cité religieuse qu'était l‘ancien quartier canonial, le cloitre témoigne de l'importance du chapitre. Cette communauté de chanoines élisant l’évêque constituait une seigneurie collective riche et influente. Initialement constitué de quatre galeries entourant un jardin, c'était un lieu clos dévolu au recueillement voire à l'Inhumation des chanoines.

Les galeries gothiques étaient voûtées sur croisées d'ogives et décorées de chapiteaux à crochets ou à feuillages. Les baies donnant sur le jardin étaient équipées de remplages encore visibles au début du XlX“ siècle. L'étage de la galerie Sud était occupé par le grenier à dîme ; celui de la galerie Est (reconstruit en 1748) par la bibliothèque du chapitre.

À la Révolution, deux des quatre galeries ont été détruites; après avoir changé plusieurs fois de destination, il accueillit une école primaire jusqu’en 1980. Suite à d'importants travaux de restauration, la bibliothèque municipale Marcel Arland s'y installa en 1987."

"Located in the heart of the religious city that was the former canonical quarter, the cloister testifies to the importance of the chapter. This community of canons electing the bishop constituted a rich and influential collective lordship. Initially made up of four galleries surrounding a garden, it was an enclosed place devoted to the contemplation and even the burial of the canons.

The Gothic galleries were vaulted on ribbed vaults and decorated with capitals with hooks or foliage. The openings overlooking the garden were equipped with tracery still visible at the beginning of the 19th century. The floor of the South gallery was occupied by the tithe loft; that of the East gallery (rebuilt in 1748) by the chapter library.

During the Revolution, two of the four galleries were destroyed; after having changed destination several times, it housed a primary school until 1980. Following major restoration work, the Marcel Arland municipal library moved there in 1987."
