The library originally was the Chester High School, opened in 1923. The enrollment at that time was 70 students. The school was closed in 1959, transferring the 60 remaining students to another school. In 1968 the school was used for various businesses, town offices and youth groups used the gym. In the 1980's the school was converted to 15 residential apartments, keeping the library and town museum in tact. The only Tudor structure in the town, it is pretty impressive for such a small town.
