An der Landstraße B56 zwischen Euskirchen-Kuchenheim und Swisttal-Essig steht ein historischer, preußischer Meilenstein. Er wurde um 1824 an der damals neu errichteten Chaussee von Bonn über Euskirchen nach Schleiden aufgestellt. Er markierte eine Entfernung von 3 Meilen bis Bonn. Der Bonner Referenzpunkt lag vermutlich am Marktplatz.

Es handelt sich um einen Rundkopfmeilenstein. Im Kopf des Steins ist noch der preußische Adler mit Zepter und Reichsapfel erkennbar. Darum herum sind die Inschriften "Regierungs-Bezirk Cöln" und "Kreis Rheinbach" angebracht. Schwieriger lesbar sind die Inschriften am verwitterten Schaft: "Bonn", "Schleidener Bezirksstrasse", "erbaut ...-1824". Am unteren Ende des Steins ist ein Kreis, in dem "III Meilen 5,00" stand.

Heute ist die B56 eine vielbefahrene Landstraße. Der Meilenstein steht zwischen der Straße und einem Fuß- und Radweg. Er kann zu Fuß oder mit dem Fahrrad sicher besucht werden, das Anhalten mit dem Auto ist dagegen nicht möglich und gefährlich!
There is a historic Prussian milestone on the B56 country road between Euskirchen-Kuchenheim and Swisttal-Essig. It was erected around 1824 on the newly constructed road from Bonn to Schleiden via Euskirchen. It marked a distance of 3 miles to Bonn. The Bonn reference point was probably on the market square.

It's a roundhead milestone. The Prussian eagle with scepter and orb can still be seen in the head of the stone. Around it are the inscriptions "Regierungs-Bezirk Cöln" and "Kreis Rheinbach". The inscriptions on the weathered shaft are more difficult to read: "Bonn", "Schleidener Bezirksstrasse", "erbaut ...-1824". At the bottom of the stone is a circle that said "III Miles 5.00".

Today the B56 is a busy country road. The milestone stands between the road and a pedestrian and cycle path. It can be safely visited on foot or by bike, but stopping by car is impossible and dangerous!
