This solar powered whooping crane camera is mounted on the top of the 40 foot observation deck at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. The camera was placed by U.S. Fish and Wildlife as part of a Whooping Crane Research time-lapse project - it says so right on the back of the camera.
Unfortunately we can't find any more information about this project on the US Fish and Wildlife Service website, or the Aransas NWR website.
It appears we will will just have to wait for USF&W to release the results of the study.
The long switch-back ramp to the 40 foot observation deck is fully accessible and rises at a low angle which is easy on the knees.
