Hærulfstenen er en af de først kendte runesten i Danmark, og omtales allerede i 1592. Den har en meget enkelt runeinskription, kun navnet "Hairulfr" = Hærulf. Hærulfstenen er 124 cm høj og 24-59 cm bred.

Runestenen står nu på sin oprindelige plads. Den har ellers været flyttet rundt et par gange. I 1854 blev den skænket til Kong Fredrik VII som personlig ejendom, og opsat i et lille parkanlæg. Efter krigen i 1864 blev den flyttet til Berlin hvor Prins Friedrich fik den sat op i parken ved sit jagtslot. Fra dansk side blev det betragtet som et nationalt tyveri, men først i 1951 lykkedes det at få Hærulfstenen tilbage, og placeret på sin oprindelige plads ved den gamle hærvej.




The Hærulf stone is one of the first known rune stones in Denmark, and is already mentioned in 1592. It has a very simple rune inscription, only the name "Hairulfr" = Hærulf. Hærulfstenen is 124 cm high and 24-59 cm wide.

The rune stone now stands in its original place. It has otherwise been moved around a few times. In 1854 it was donated to King Fredrik VII as personal property, and set up in a small park. After the war in 1864, it was moved to Berlin where Prince Friedrich had it set up in the park at his hunting lodge. From the Danish side, it was considered a national theft, but only in 1951 did it succeed in getting Hærulfstenen back, and placed in its original place by the old oxroad.
