This triangulation pillar can be found on the north side of Pittengardner farm, close to the roadside of the minor route that runs north-westwards from the A90 between the Mearns villages of Fordoun and Auchenblae, the farm being half a mile from the former. The pillar is only 68 metres above sea level in the fertile hollow of the Howe of the Mearns and views are limited to the high ground of Strathfinella Hill to the north-west. The pillar still survives despite it being an obstacle in the farmyard.

STEEPNESS: None.

TERRAIN: The pillar lies on a grassy area between the farmyard and fields.

ACCESSIBILITY: The pillar lies only a few yards to the west of the road and is visible from it providing there is no farm equipment in the way.

NAVIGATION: Leave the A90 dual-carriageway at Fordoun and follow the road north-west for half a mile where Pittengardner Farm is situated on the left hand side of the road. The pillar is to the north of the farm on the edge of the yard.

DANGER: None except if farming work is going on in the vicinity.
