Carved wooden crosses are a common feature of church architecture in Eastern Europe and in Romania especially. They are rarely seen in North Texas.
Type of cross: Eastern cross

Material used: Wood

Characteristics of this cross:
The cross itself has four arms of equal length, often referred to as a Greek cross. At the ends of each arm can be found a set of letters, IC HR on the top and bottom, and NI KA from left to right. In Greek, this would be represented 'ICXC NIKA' which means 'Jesus Christ Conquers'. The 'HR' is undoubtedly a Romanian variant of this expression. The remaining artwork is mostly decoration, though perhaps not completely devoid of symbolism. In the middle of the cross is what appears to be a flower and at the foot of the cross a star. The roof-like covering is also common on crosses of this kind.

Describe the location:
This cross has been placed near the road as a sign of the parish's heritage. It sits inside the gate on a narrow strip of grass between the parking lot and the fence. The building was constructed in A.D. 2003-2004, and the cross is probably contemporary.
