Muziektent
At this place, still popularly called the Vondelingenplein, were washed up drowning persons (in Dutch vondelingen) were buried anonymously until the end of the 19th century. After that, this was no longer allowed.
Previously a rye mill stood here. The Muziektent, which was built for the fanfare music corps “Vooruit” (Forward) was already here in 1920. The fanfare music corps “Vreest God, eert de Koning” (Fear God, praise the King) also had its own muziektent. This was on the Oude Weide.
In 1946 they merged to form the Gemeentelijk Muziekkorps Hindeloopen.
In 1980 the Muziektent on the Nieuwstad was demolished.
In 2001 Stichting Stadsherstel Hindeloopen had a replica of the old Muziektent built.
The official opening was performed on September 7, 1981 by the Mayor of the Municipality of Nijefurd.
