" Située montée d'or de la Souchère, entre les remparts et le musée Picasso, au coeur du vieil Antibes, la cathédrale Notre-Dame de L'immaculée Conception est bâtie dit-on sur l'emplacement d'un temple païen.

Le premier évêque a été saint Armentaire (ou Hermantaire), moine de l'abbaye de Lérins, nommé par le pape saint Léon le Grand, et est cité au concile de Vaison en 442. Il a construit la première cathédrale qu'il a consacrée à la Vierge Marie. Elle semble avoir subi de nombreux remaniements jusqu'à l'époque carolingienne.

La cathédrale fut détruite par les Sarrasins en 1124, puis reconstruite en 1125.

De nombreuses fois détruite et reconstruite en particulier en 1608, et 1746 lors de la guerre de succession d'Autriche; le roi Louis XV avait offert la façade de la cathédrale.

Au XIXe siècle la façade se voit remaniée par l'ajout de colonnes en stuc et faux chapiteaux.

Elle abrite un retable "Notre-Dame du Rosaire" attribué à BREA peintre Niçois (1450-1520) signé en 1515. Il s'agit d'un grand panneau de bois, Notre Dame de la miséricorde au milieu des enfants les protège sous son manteau."

"Located on the Golden Rise of La Souchère, between the ramparts and the Picasso Museum, in the heart of old Antibes, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception is said to have been built on the site of a pagan temple.

The first bishop was Saint Armentaire (or Hermantaire), monk of the Abbey of Lérins, appointed by Pope Saint Leo the Great, and was cited at the Council of Vaison in 442. He built the first cathedral which he consecrated to the Virgin Mary. It seems to have undergone many alterations until the Carolingian period.

The cathedral was destroyed by the Saracens in 1124, then rebuilt in 1125.

Many times destroyed and rebuilt in particular in 1608, and 1746 during the War of Austrian Succession; King Louis XV had offered the facade of the cathedral.

In the 19th century, the façade was redesigned with the addition of stucco columns and false capitals.

It houses an altarpiece "Notre-Dame du Rosaire" attributed to BREA painter Niçois (1450-1520) signed in 1515. It is a large wooden panel, Our Lady of Mercy in the middle of the children protects them under her coat."
