When entering Fort Mason from the south side (Bay street), you will find the benchmark in the center of the reserve, next to the flagpole.
The stone is 75 cm high, 50 cm wide and length is also 50 cm. The text on the plaque reads:

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1952 AT SAN FRANCISCO. AT SAN FRANCISCO, AT FORT MASON, AT THE INTERSECTION OF POPE ROAD AND MAC ARTHUR AVENUE, THE TOP OF THE RIGHT-HAND CORNER OF THE BRONZE PLATE ON A GRANITE MONUMENT HONORING FORT MASON, 72.0 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF THE INTERSECTION, AND ABOUT 4 FEET HIGHER THAN THE AVENUE.
