ASHLAND (alt. 560, pop. 1375), 51.9 m., limited accommodations, is a little town with few residences of size. In its early days Ashland was a part of Holderness; it was incorporated independently in 1868. Grist mills and sawmills were operated here in 1770. Today the manufacture of tissue paper and of woolen goods are the chief industries of the community.

American-Guide-Series - New Hampshire: a Guide to the Granite State, p.317

Once part of Holderness, Ashland split off into their own town in 1668. In 1871 they built the Town Hall. Ashland for such a small town has more than their share of buildings on National Register of Historic Places.
