Most of the many surviving parish boundary markers in the City of London follow a standard format. They tend to be small metal plates affixed to the walls of buildings, bearing the initials of the church parish concerned and the year in which they were placed. This marker is unusual in three ways. It is larger than standard, it has no date and it is set into the pavement rather than a wall. Close inspection however shows that there are four small holes in the plate and there is a suspicion at least that it may at one time have been fixed to a wall, through these holes, and is no longer in its original position.

The parish of St Dunstan’s lies immediately to the east of this point. To the west is the parish of St Clement Danes, although that parish is not marked at this location. The boundary marker is also effectively marking the boundary between the City of London and the City of Westminster.
Type of survey mark: Metal plate.
