Face à la mer, c'était une partie nord de la vieille bâtisse, qui tout d'un coup mettait un pas dans la modernité. Et le contraste était saisissant.
Une longue toile blanche tirée sur la grande façade de l'ancien hôpital, à la forme linéaire, en était pour le moins insolite.
Jean-Raphaël Lanzi, étudiant en cinquième année à l'école nationale supérieure d'architecture de Paris La Villette était donc à l'œuvre. « Il s'agit d'une installation dans le cadre de mon projet de fin d'étude,explique le jeune Calvais.Sous la direction de l'artiste plasticien Xavier Juillot qui a réalisé des installations sur le fort Mozzello lors du Festival du vent. Et appuyé par mes professeurs Carlo Aslan et Anne Philippe. »
En convention avec la municipalité, l'étudiant en architecture travaille longuement sur la réhabilitation du vieux bâtiment en un grand centre culturel.
Un projet de revalorisation
Désormais propriété de la municipalité calvaise, l'hôpital militaire a été l'objet d'une pré-étude. Le site sera vraisemblablement dédié à la culture. Mais Jean-Raphaël Lanzi entend aller plus loin.« Mon projet ambitionne de faire de ce lieu un centre culturel où se mêleront toutes les disciplines artistiques,affirme l'étudiant. Une salle de théâtre et de musique. De l'art visuel. De l'équipement interdisciplinaire. Tout cela s'inscrit dans un travail de revalorisation de la citadelle. »Car si le futur architecte veut « remettre la vieille ville à sa place », c'est-à-dire au centre de Calvi, son installation n'est que le prolongement de son étude initiale.
Toute la journée de dimanche, le jeune Calvais a mis en place une grande toile sur la face nord du bâtiment. À l'aide de nombreux cordages et de descentes en rappel sur les façades.
Une expérience architecturale
Le jeune architecte envisage dans son projet de revalorisation, de modifier cette partie nord avec une touche d'architecture contemporaine. Et son expérience en est simplement une illustration. « Je pense qu'une installation à cet emplacement va soulever de nombreuses questions en ce qui concerne la réhabilitation du patrimoine et l'impact visuel,explique l'étudiant. L'objectif est de créer un outil de travail pour pouvoir travailler le volume. Et constater la place qu'il prendra dans mon projet. »
Le Calvais a cependant réutilisé à sa manière, la toile de Laurie Guidoni qui avait elle aussi réalisé un travail de perspective sur l'ancienne église du Scalu à L'Île-Rousse.
Cette expérience architecturale très libre permettra de mesurer l'espace à travailler. Et d'évaluer le volume que prendra la nouvelle structure sur cet emplacement du bâtiment.
