Decorative manhole cover on a road in the village Kirkjubøur. The village is part of Tórshavn Municipality. And the motif on the manhole cover is also Tórshavn municipality's city coat of arms and the text Tórshavnar Kommuna. The city coat of arms shows Thor's hammer, Mjølner and refers to the city's origins in pre-Christian Viking times.


Kirkjubøur is the Faroe Islands' most important historical site. Throughout the Middle Ages, Kirkjubøur was the episcopal see and thus the country's spiritual and cultural center.
