"Listasavn Føroya" is the Faroe Islands' main museum for Faroese art. The collection consists of approx. 2,500 works. It is both paintings, sculptures, graphics and textiles that can be seen in the museum. The oldest paintings are from 1830.
At the museum there is a department only with Faroese art, especially the paintings with birds are very interesting.
The museum makes its collection and archives available for research. Researchers from all over the world come to the museum to research Faroese art. The museum's own employees also conduct research in the form of research-based catalog articles and book publications. In 2017-2022, there is a research project that focuses on the significance of art for national identities.
