There are two columns, standing at either side of Pollock Road, to represent a gate into campus. They were a gift from the Class of 1903 to celebrate their 50th reunion. A nittany lion looks out from the tops of each column.

The limestone columns were originally located at the intersection of North Atherton. In 2002, they were moved one block to the intersection of Burrowes Road.

The construction of the IST Building was to occupy the former space.
