De Geschiedenis
Mevrouw Paulina Le Fèvre de Montigny -Bisdom van Vliet legt in de zomer van 1900 de eerste steen. Ze schenkt een groot startkapitaal en zo ontstaat Concordia. Het monumentale gebouw heeft een ingangsportaal, een grote zaal met een toneel en een koffiekamer.
conc01bEen half jaar nadat de eerste steen is gelegd wordt op 5 januari 1901 Concordia officieel geopend. In het begin is de naam: Kunst- en Sportgebouw Concordia.
Paulina geeft met Concordia een plek aan de dorpsverenigingen, want die zorgen voor ‘sociale samenhang, nuttige tijdsbesteding en soms verdieping van de geest’.
Vanaf de start is Concordia het bruisende middelpunt van het lokale verenigingsleven. Het is daarnaast ook intensief in gebruik voor jubilea en bijeenkomsten.
Sinds de start ruim een eeuw geleden is er veel met het gebouw gebeurd. Het heeft oorlogen overleefd. Goede en minder goede periodes op het gebied van gebruik en onderhoud wisselen elkaar af. Begin jaren tachtig is de financiële situatie van het pand ronduit slecht. Op het terrein worden de sportzaal en het naastgelegen gezondheidscentrum bijgebouwd.
Nieuwe toekomst
Gelukkig heeft de voormalige gemeente Vlist oog voor historische waarde van Haastrecht. Het bestuur van Stichting Concordia krijgt dan de kans om Concordia als gezichtsbepalend historisch gebouw een nieuwe toekomst te geven.
De grondige renovatie is uitstekend geslaagd. Zo wordt de culturele en sociale functie van het gebouw nieuw leven ingeblazen. Concordia is dan als vanouds weer de aantrekkelijke plek voor inwoners en verenigingen.
Betekenis
Concordia is het Latijnse woord voor “eendracht”, letterlijk “met (een) hart”. Concordia is ook een Latijns-Amerikaanse meisjesnaam en betekent “harmonie”."

Concordia nu
Concordia biedt hedendaagse ruimtes in een prachtig historisch pand.
Het theater beschikt over een grote zaal met een groot podium en direct daarnaast is het gezellige Grand Café Concordia.
Zitplaatsen
In de grote zaal biedt Concordia zitplekken aan 190 mensen. 80 zitplaatsen op de mobiele tribune en daarvoor 110 zitplaatsen voor het podium.
Staplaatsen
Voor een bijeenkomst waar iedereen staat, biedt de grote, culturele zaal ruimte aan 300 personen. Zoals bij recepties en popconcerten. Als je het Grand Café erbij betrekt, dan kunnen er 450 (staande) gasten in Concordia terecht.
Grand Café
Ook in het Grand Café is plek voor grote groepen mensen. Er zijn zitplaatsen voor 100 mensen en 150 gasten kunnen er zitten en staan.
Kleine gezelschappen
Theater Concordia is ook geschikt voor kleinere gezelschappen. Voor kleine groepen bieden zowel de culturele zaal als het Grand Café prima sfeervolle mogelijkheden. Zowel de zaal als het Grand Café kun je in overleg met gastheer Rob van Zuilen naar eigen inzicht indelen.
Het Concordia kan voor vele doeleinden worden gebruikt.
Naast alle verschillende culturele faciliteiten zoals theater en filmavonden kan er bijvoorbeeld ook worden getrouwd.

The history

From the start, Concordia has been the bustling center of local club life. It is also intensively used for anniversaries and meetings.
Much has happened to the building since its inception more than a century ago. It has survived wars. Good and less good periods in terms of use and maintenance alternate. In the early eighties the financial situation of the building was downright bad. The sports hall and the adjacent health center will be added to the site.
New future
Fortunately, the former municipality of Vlist has an eye for the historical value of Haastrecht. The board of the Concordia Foundation will then have the opportunity to give Concordia a new future as a landmark historic building.
The thorough renovation has been extremely successful. In this way, the cultural and social function of the building is revived. As always, Concordia is the attractive place for residents and associations.
Meaning
Concordia is the Latin word for "union", literally "with (a) heart". Concordia is also a Latin American girl's name and means "harmony".

Concordia offers contemporary spaces in a beautiful historic building.
The theater has a large hall with a large stage and right next to it is the cozy Grand Café Concordia.
Seats
In the main hall, Concordia offers seating for 190 people. 80 seats on the mobile grandstand and 110 seats in front of the stage.
