These quotes from the Bible are located behind Saint Patrick Church at the corner of 10th and Buffalo Streets in Franklin, Pennsylvania. The Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes are carved into a stone monument, the Ten Commandments on top, and the Beatitudes on the bottom. These are two of the most well-known sections of the entire Bible, as they provide God's expectations for how people will live - the Commandments from the Old Testament and the Beatitudes from the New Testament.

The Ten Commandments, which God gave to Moses on Mount Sinai, as told in the book of Exodus, chapter 20, verses 2-17, are listed on the monument thus:

I am the lord your God:
I You shall not have strange gods before me.
II You shall not take the name of the lord your God in vain.
III Remember to keep holy the lord's day.
IV Honor your father and mother.
V You shall not kill.
VI You shall not commit adultery.
VII You shall not steal.
VIII You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
IX You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.
X You shall not covet your neighbor's goods.

The Beatitudes come from Christ's Sermon on the Mount as recorded in Saint Matthew's Gospel, chapter 5, verses 1-12. On the base of the monument, they are written as:

When he saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him. He began to teach them, saying:
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
