In 2007 werd in Woerden op het Defensie-eiland het beeldhouwerssymposium 'Sitting Art' gehouden, georganiseerd door de Rotary Woerden. Deelnemers waren tien kunstenaars uit landen die in 2004 tot de Europese Unie waren toegetreden. Hun opdracht was iets te maken uit duurzaam materiaal bedoeld voor de openbare ruimte waar men op moest kunnen zitten.

De kunstenaar (Maria Seborova uit Tjechië) heeft dit beeld een dubbele functie gegeven: een functionele en een inspirerende. Op het beeld kan worden gezeten. Zijzelf noemt het de Guardian Angel, een engelbewaarder die over jou waakt en jou begeleidt bij het vinden van oplossingen of het opdoen van ideeën. Het kunstwerk houdt het midden tussen figuratief en abstract en is ongeveer 1 meter hoog, 1.80 meter breed en 80 cm diep. Het staat als ware met twee korte poten op een sokkel. Het materiaal is dolomiet, een harde soort kalksteen die in verschillende kleurstellingen voorkomt. Dit beeld heeft een beige kleur.

Een engel is een bovennatuurlijk, verstandelijk wezen, dat wordt teruggevonden in verscheidene (vaak monotheïstische) religies. In het christendom, de islam, het jodendom en zoroastrisme, treden engelen, als bedienden of beschermers van de mens, gewoonlijk op als boodschappers van God (of de goden), van wie ze duidelijk zijn onderscheiden, en beschikken over bovenmenselijke capaciteiten en eigenschappen.

De term engel kan zowel worden gebruikt als de categorie waartoe diverse hemelse wezens behoren, zoals aartsengelen, serafs, cherubs en tronen, maar ook als een van de lagere hemelse wezens die tot deze categorie behoren - vaak gelijkgesteld aan beschermengelen. Het jodendom, christendom en de islam gaan ervan uit dat het aantal engelen astronomisch is; er wordt in de Bijbel gesproken over tienduizenden maal tienduizenden, een uitdrukking die "ontelbaar veel" betekent. Er bestaat een zekere rangorde onder de engelen, maar het aantal orden en de benamingen daarvan verschilt per godsdienst. Engelachtige wezens komen het eerst voor in de culturen van het Oude Egypte en Mesopotamië.

In 2007 the sculptors' symposium 'Sitting Art' was held in Woerden on the Defense Island, organized by the Rotary Woerden. Participants were ten artists from countries that had joined the European Union in 2004. Their assignment was to make something from sustainable material intended for the public space that people had to be able to sit on.

An angel is a supernatural, intellectual being found in various (often monotheistic) religions. In Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and Zoroastrianism, angels, as servants or protectors of man, usually act as messengers from God (or the gods), from whom they are clearly distinguished, and possess superhuman abilities and qualities.

The term angel can be used both as the category to which various celestial beings belong, such as archangels, seraphs, cherubs and thrones, as well as one of the lower celestial beings belonging to this category - often equated with guardian angels. Judaism, Christianity and Islam assume that the number of angels is astronomical; the Bible speaks of tens of thousands times tens of thousands, an expression that means "countless many." There is a certain order of rank among the angels, but the number of orders and their denominations differ from religion to religion. Angelic beings first appear in the cultures of Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia.
