Les Gorges d'Oppedette ont pris naissance avec le soulèvement de la Montagne de Lure et du plateau de Vaucluse, entrainant l’enfoncement d'un canyon entaillant l’épaisse série des calcaires qui constitue la grande masse des monts de Vaucluse.
Stupéfiantes ces gorges calcaires font 2,5 kilomètres de long, 140 mètres de large et 200 mètres de profondeur par endroits ! C’est la rivière Calavon (son nom signifierait « Rivière de Pierre) qui coule au fond des gorges qui a conditionné le tracé et la morphologie du canyo.
Le site des gorges est classé en Espace Naturel Sensible du département des Alpes de Haute-Provence. Des travaux d’aménagement et de protection ont été réalisés en 2009 pour permettre préservation et découverte. Ainsi plusieurs belvédères permettent de découvrir des points de vue sur les gorges ou sur le village.

The Gorges d'Oppedette were born with the uplift of the Montagne de Lure and the Vaucluse plateau, causing the sinking of a canyon cutting into the thick series of limestones which constitute the great mass of the Vaucluse mountains.
Stunning, these limestone gorges are 2.5 kilometers long, 140 meters wide and 200 meters deep in places! It is the Calavon River (its name would mean "River of Stone) which flows at the bottom of the gorges which conditioned the layout and the morphology of the canyon.
The site of the gorges is classified as a Sensitive Natural Area of ??the Alpes de Haute-Provence department. Development and protection work was carried out in 2009 to allow preservation and discovery. Several belvederes allow you to discover viewpoints over the gorges or over the village.
