This statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary is located at Mount Calvary Cemetery on Highpoint Drive near Coal Center, Pennsylvania. The statue is near the main entrance to the cemetery, in a row of 19 statues of saints and Old Testament prophets. It has the title "Our Lady of La Salette" on the base and shows Mary standing with her hands folded over her chest.

The Blessed Virgin Mary is venerated by Christians as the Mother of the Word Incarnate, Our Lord Jesus Christ. As a young girl betrothed to St. Joseph, Mary was visited by the angel Gabriel and told that she would conceive a son by the Holy Ghost, who would be the Son of God. In humble obedience to the divine messenger, Mary replied, "Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it done to me according to thy word." In Bethlehem, her Son was born and was adored by shepherds and kings. As is known throughout the world, this Son, Jesus Christ, went on to suffer on the cross and rise again, offering salvation to the world through Him. Today, Mary is venerated as the Mother of God and Queen of Heaven.

The title of Our Lady of La Salette refers to when the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to two children in La Salette, France in 1846. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia:

"On 19 September, 1846, about three o'clock in the afternoon in full sunlight, on a mountain about 5918 feet high and about three miles distant from the village of La Salette-Fallavaux, it is related that two children, a shepherdess of fifteen named Mélanie Calvat, called Mathieu, and a shepherd-boy of eleven named Maximin Giraud, both of them very ignorant, beheld in a resplendent light a 'beautiful lady' clad in a strange costume. Speaking alternately in French and in patois, she charged them with a message which they were 'to deliver to all her people'. After complaining of the impiety of Christians, and threatening them with dreadful chastisements in case they should persevere in evil, she promised them the Divine mercy if they would amend. Finally, it is alleged, before disappearing she communicated to each of the children a special secret."
