"In recognition of 45 years of devoted service to Baylor University by Governor Bill Daniel of Liberty, Texas, as lawyer and general land agent in the stewardship of extensive East Texas lands and minerals which he has enhanced to become major assets of the University and his wonderful wife, Vara Martin Daniel, the Baylor Board of Trustees resolved on July 15, 1982, to formally comment Governor Bill Daniel and to name in perpetuity this central mall the Vara Martin Daniel Fountain Plaza."
