Deer Sculptures - Chesterton, Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire, UK - Silhouette Public Art Sculptures on Waymarking.com

The two families of deer sculptures are installed on opposite sides of the Parkhouse Road roundabout.

The project was commissioned by Newcastle-under-Lyme Council, to highlight animals/plants native to the area as part of the borough’s Britain in Bloom campaign.
The sculptures were made by apprentices and sponsored by local businesses Newcastle-under-Lyme Business Improvement District and Dereky Mawby Surfacing.

The sculptures feature nine deer - stags, does and fawns walking and grazing among the heather.
They were developed by Luke Steadman, aged 20, and Bayley Palmer, 18, from the Art works team of Achieve Training, largest apprenticeship provider in Staffordshire.
They used a design created by the internationally renowned sculptor Andy Edwards, who was born in North Staffordshire. Luke and Bayley were involved in the design, construction, assembly and welding processes under the guidance of Artworks Manager Phil Brown.

"The silhouettes, ranging up to two metres tall, are constructed from galvanised mild steel plate to match the other sculptures – representing a brown trout, buzzard, dandelion and bee, frog, hare and a snowdrop – which feature on other key town centre gateways to enhance the environment and celebrate the borough’s natural heritage."
