The Baba settlement is a first-republican functionalist villa colony (visit link) on the southeastern part of the Baba promontory in Dejvice, Prague. It was built as one of six European colonies of modern housing that were initiated by the Werkbund in the late 1920s and early 1930s. These colonies were intended to promote modern functionalist construction that was affordable for the broader classes. The Baba settlement is the only one of the colonies composed entirely of individual houses built to suit the investor. Within the functionalist colonies, Baba is one of the best preserved, as similar developments in Vienna and Germany were damaged during World War II. The Baba settlement has been an urban conservation area since 1993, and in 2020 it was awarded, along with other European functionalist complexes, the European Heritage.

Architect of the house No. 1803 is Jan Evangelista Koula (1896-1975), a furniture designer, historian and theorist of modern architecture, designer, teacher and editor of the magazine Stavba. He was a professor at the School of Applied Arts in Prague and 1947-1970 a professor at the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava.
