Tower was designed by Birger Federley. The water tower was needed to supply water for the factory and the factory community, but it is said to have also serviced the near by Niemi farm. Inaddition it was used to dry off the hoses of the factory fire brigade

JWE text above the year 1918 means: Johan Waldemar Enqvist. He was a finnish sawmill industrialist who influenced the Tampere region and was a founder of the forest industry company J.W. Enqvist Oy.
