Dubbele ijzeren BASCULEBRUG, genaamd Beursbrug, gelegen in de Nieuwe Sluis en gebouwd in 1902 op bestaande peilers (1779), geflankeerd door vier gietijzeren, in Neo-Empirestijl uitgevoerde lantaarns (derde kwart 19de eeuw). De brug is gebouwd naar ontwerp van L. Doedes en uitgevoerd door de firma Penn & Bauduin uit Dordrecht.

De brug is de derde op deze plaats over de Nieuwe Sluis. De sluis (rijksmonument nr. 33260) dateert van 1779 en is gelegen op de plaats waar zich vroeger de dam in de Schie bevond.

NB: In 1949 werd de brug gereviseerd, waarbij de trottoirs zijn verbreed. De laatste restauratie, waarbij de gehele brug werd vervangen, vond plaats in 1997. De oorspronkelijke vorm werd geheel gehandhaafd. Van het handbediende aandrijfwerk werden twee van de vier mechanismen ontmanteld, aangezien met twee kan worden volstaan. De kappen van de lantaarns zijn origineel, maar zijn bij de restauratie op andere (authentieke) schachten geplaatst, van Haags fabrikaat.

Omschrijving

De brug bestaat uit twee beweegbare delen die met de onderliggende stalen mechanismen (handbediend) rusten op twee langwerpige, gemetselde peilers voorzien van afgeschuinde uiteinden van hardstenen blokken. Vanaf de gemetselde sluismuren aan beide zijden een vast brugdeel van betonnen platen. De beweegbare delen zijn van staal op eveneens stalen liggers.

Alle brugdelen hebben een smeedijzeren hekwerk van vierkante staanders, verbonden door platte horizontale stangen met daartussen andreaskruisen. Aan de bovenzijde een doorlopende naturel gelakte, eikenhouten leuning. Op de hoeken van de brug bevinden zich gietijzeren lantaarns met in laag relief Franse lelies en andere bladmotieven. Langs de schacht wijnranken in een spiraal oplopend. De lantaarns zijn zeskantig en worden afgesloten door een koperen bekroning.

The bridge is the third bridge at this location across the Nieuwe Sluis. The lock (national monument no. 33260) dates from 1779 and is located where the dam in the Schie used to be.

NB: In 1949 the bridge was overhauled, with the sidewalks being widened. The last restoration, in which the entire bridge was replaced, took place in 1997. The original shape was completely preserved. Two of the four mechanisms of the manually operated drive have been dismantled, as two will suffice. The caps of the lanterns are original, but were placed on other (authentic) shafts during the restoration, made by The Hague.

Description

The bridge consists of two movable parts that rest with the underlying steel mechanisms (manually operated) on two elongated, masonry pillars with bevelled ends of hard stone blocks. From the masonry lock walls on both sides a fixed bridge section of concrete slabs. The movable parts are made of steel on steel beams as well.

All bridge sections have wrought iron fencing of square uprights, connected by flat horizontal bars with Andrew's crosses in between. At the top a continuous natural lacquered oak railing. At the corners of the bridge are cast iron lanterns with low relief French lilies and other leaf motifs. Vines ascending in a spiral along the shaft. The lanterns are hexagonal and are closed by a copper crown.
