De Anne Frankboom was de bijnaam van de witte paardenkastanje die in het centrum van Amsterdam stond en werd beschreven in Het Achterhuis, het dagboek dat Anne Frank schreef tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Samen met leerlingen uit Schiedam Zuid en Sneep onthulde Cor Lamers zaterdag de zaailing van de Anne Frankboom.

Raadslid Frans Hamerslag van Progressief Schiedam nam zes jaar geleden het initiatief om een nakomeling van de kastanjeboom naar Schiedam te halen. De gemeenteraad schaarde zich erachter dit voornemen en oud-wethouder Ad Hekman haalde boom op in Amsterdam.




The Schiedam tree expert Huib Snape has grown the tree himself in his garden in recent years; the descendant of the Anne Frank tree is now standing on its own two feet and since Saturday has a new place in the Plantage, the 250-year-old city park in Schiedam.

The Anne Frankboom was the nickname of the white horse chestnut that stood in the center of Amsterdam and was described in Het Achterhuis, the diary that Anne Frank wrote during the Second World War. Together with students from Schiedam Zuid and Sneep, Cor Lamers unveiled the seedling of the Anne Frank tree on Saturday.

Councilor Frans Hamerslag of Progressief Schiedam took the initiative six years ago to bring a descendant of the chestnut tree to Schiedam. The city council supported this intention and former alderman Ad Hekman picked up a tree in Amsterdam.
