De brug over de Nieuwe Haven naar de Branderssteeg werd in de Volksmond de “Kippenbrug’ genoemd. In 1948 naam de gemeente het besluit om deze naam als officiele naam te gebruiken. In datzelfde jaar reserveerde de gemeente een budget van ƒ 25.000 voor de bouw van een nieuwe brug . Werf Gusto kreeg de opdracht en leverde de brug na veel vertragingen (door materiaalschaarste als gevolg van WO 2) vlak voor de feestdagen in 1948 op. Op 13 december 1948 begon de Wit’s Berging Maatschappij met het op zijn plaats leggen van de brugdelen. De Middenstand-vereniging van Schiedam was daar uitermate blij mee, zo vlak voor de feestdagen. In die periode telde men soms wel 20.000 passanten, die via deze brug naar de winkels op de Hoogstraat liepen! De huidige Kippenbrug is een replica van de Kippenbrug van Werf Gusto uit 1948 en is geplaatst omstreeks 2009.



The bridge over the Nieuwe Haven to the Branderssteeg was popularly referred to as the "Kippenbrug". In 1948 the municipality took the decision to use this name as the official name. In the same year , the municipality set aside a budget of NLG 25,000 for the construction of a new bridge . Shipyard Gusto was awarded the contract and after many delays (due to material shortages as a result of World War 2), the bridge was completed just before the holidays in 1948. On December 13, 1948, the Wit's Berging Maatschappij started laying the bridge sections in place. The Schiedam Middle Class Association was extremely happy with this, just before the holidays. In that period there were sometimes as many as 20,000 passers-by, who walked via this bridge to the shops on the Hoogstraat! The current Chicken Bridge is a replica of the Chicken Bridge of Werf Gusto from 1948 and was placed around 2009.
