APRIL 7, 1896 - OCTOBER 6, 1918
Lt. William Hassett Kane was the first casualty and only commissioned officer from Westfield to be killed in World War I. He was assigned to the Machine Gun Company, 137th Infantry, 35th Division of the American Expeditionary Forces.
Kane Park occupies the southern end of the traffic triangle bound by Elm Street, Union Street and the Westfield River.
