The Vrchlice River flows through the valley on the southeastern edge of Kutná Hora. The coloured postcard "Kutná Hora - Partie na Vrchlice (coloured light print) was published by Rudolf Holan in Kutná Hora. It shows a part of the town near Nové Mlýny with two bridges - a metal railway bridge and a wooden one for pedestrians. The wooden one has been replaced by a concrete one. On the postcard you can still see the tower of St. James Church. The town of Kutná Hora lies on one of the routes of St. James.

The Gothic church of St. James is the oldest stone church in Kutná Hora. It was built in the 14th century at the expense of local mining entrepreneurs and coin guilds. Originally it was supposed to have 2 towers, but the construction of the second tower was abandoned due to unsuitable ground conditions.
The church was originally dedicated to the Virgin Mary but, as there was already another Marian church on the site, this was called the Upper Church. Later it was dedicated to St. James, yet by the mid-17th century it was referred to as the High Church because of its exceptional height.
