EN: "In terms of symbology, the Mural Crown of Five Towers is the symbol of the city; the Beam of three arrows represents the martyr São Sebastião and is one of the heraldic symbols on the coat of arms of the former Town Hall of Villa d'Amarante, completed in the reign of D. Sebastião; the Lion signifies the strength, grandeur and courage with which the Amarantines defended the national cause in the 2nd French Invasion and is still one of the heraldic symbols of the former municipality of Gouveia de Riba-Tâmega; the crenellated bridge symbolizes the old bridge of Amarante, the antiquity of the county and the union of the Amarantine people; the Ondado de Prata represents the Tâmega River; the Necklace of the Order of the Tower and Sword symbolizes the decoration of the Order of the Tower and Sword with which Amarante was awarded for the heroic acts performed in the service of the Nation, during the 2nd French Invasion."

In this mosaic made with tiles on a white background, there is the coat of arms of the city.
Today, the lion is standing, and not with all four paws supported as here.
