It forms the centre piece of a large display of interchangeable information boards.
The boards are arranged on the outside of large gabions (wire cages filled with stone).
There is one central gabion which also forms the centre of the compass rose. In addition there are 8 other gabions forming a circle around the centre.
The information boards have information about historical events in the history of the seaside town of Redcar.
The central gabion has the following information.
