An early chapel in the village was dedicated to the Irish missionary Gallus (c. 555- c. 645). In 1826 Filsen became an independent parish. The old St. Gallus church was demolished and replaced in 1877 by a new building (parish church) with a neo-Gothic vaulted hall and a recessed choir made of slate stone. The slender west tower wears a corner helmet. Inside there are two baroque sculptures. The new church is dedicated to Saint Margaretha.
