The village of Methlick is situated in the centre of Aberdeenshire in the north-east of Scotland and lies next to the River Ythan. A bridge here over the river was proposed by Lord Aberdeen who lived nearby at Haddo House, and in 1844 it was constructed by engineers J & W Smith. A refurbishment and widening was carried out by Aberdeenshire Council in 2003.

The bridge carries the B9170 and multiplex with the B9005 over the river to the north of the village centre. It features a ribbed cast-iron central arch of 40 feet which is flanked by two stone segmental arches.
