The village of Methlick lies in the centre of Aberdeenshire some twenty miles to the north of the city of Aberdeen in north-east Scotland. The war memorial of the district is situated next to the main B9170 road through the village in a garden area next to the old churchyard and the ruins of the old church, with the current church just to the south.

The memorial was designed by George Watt and unveiled on September 25th 1921. It takes the form of a cenotaph surmounted by a wreath in relief. Below is a plinth which contains the inscription and names in black lettering on all four sides. The memorial lies within a circular grass mound surrounded by railings.

The inscription reads as follows:

'ERECTED IN GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF THE MEN CONNECTED WITH THIS DISTRICT WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919'

There are 46 names with ranks and units on three of the sides.
