Presbyterianism was introduced into the Maritime Provinces of Canada in 1786. In 1827, two Presbyterian Ministers visited Sydney and performed baptism. Subsequently St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church was incorporated in 1849 as the first Presbyterian church in Sydney. Later two other Presbyterian churches were built. Construction of the the present Presbyterian Church was began in 1926 and the church was dedicated on November 21st, 1926.

The Greek Revival style church has a portico entrance with two Doric columns and two Doric piasters that support a pediment that has a circular window in its center. A set of stairs leads up to a central entrance which has smaller entrances on each sides. Two by two pane windows are on the north and south sides of the front.

Rising from the gable roof is a four tiered steeple. The lowest part is a square tower which supports a belfry with louvered windows with rounded tops. At the top is a smaller octagonal tower and an octagonal spire with a finial on top.

The sides of the church are six bays wide. On both sides, the first bay is occupied by a half-size multi-pane window with a rounded top. The remaining five bays have full size multi-pane windows with a rounded tops
