"The Den Bosch region did not yet have a butterfly garden, but that has changed. Mariaoord has had a beautiful butterfly garden since 2017. It was officially opened on September 5, 2017 by Ronald, resident of the Sprokkelbosch department, Mariaoord. And the special thing is: the butterfly garden is open to everyone.

The idea of a butterfly garden arose on the basis of a few photos. It was remarkable how much pleasure residents got from viewing these photos. The actual realization of a butterfly garden on Mariaoord therefore seems an ideal addition to the residential environment of Mariaoord.

But in addition to the direct pleasure that residents will experience from watching these butterflies, there are also indirect benefits. This makes the area around Mariaoord more attractive for visitors and walkers. As a result, there will be more activity on the relatively remote site. We can also invite school classes to follow the process from egg to butterfly in the butterfly garden of Mariaoord.

The idea is an initiative of Mrs Phil Duijzer, who works at Mariaoord. The project was realized with financial support from the municipality of Den Bosch and the Mariaoord Extra foundation.

The years that followed were sponsored by St. Tot Zorg en Welzijn, St. Social Fund Den Bosch. And through gifts from residents, family and friends, visitors and employees, etc., etc."
