Monkey Bird est l’association de deux artistes français, qui ont choisi de retranscrire des thèmes sociaux en fables murales, grâce à la représentation d’animaux totems à la symbolique élaborée.
L’oiseau est utilisé comme personnification de l’âme humaine d’où découlent les notions de liberté, d’évasion et de jeux d’esprit. Le singe renvoie à la condition humaine primitive et aux moyens mis en œuvre pour résister à notre propre nature. Il fait par conséquent écho aux principes d’architecture et d’appareil social.
Les Monkey Bird encouragent l’homme à trouver un juste équilibre, entre ses obsessions matérielles et ses fantasmes de liberté, afin de se construire en tant qu’animal social. Leur inspiration est principalement tirée d’œuvres sacrées ou lyriques telles que les enluminures, les vitraux, l’ornementation architecturale mais aussi des illustrations fantastiques de la période « Arts and Crafts » ou des estampes japonaises.
Les deux artistes commencent à travailler dans la rue avant d’investir les murs des musées et institutions. Ils n’abandonnent pas pour autant leur premier lieu d’expression et multiplient les techniques et les expériences plastiques en fonction de l’espace sélectionné: pochoirs, gravures, linogravures, recherches de soustractions de la matière, dessins, découpages ou affiches en toile de verre. Artistes à l’originalité graphique marquante, ils alimentent le paysage urbain international par la poésie de leurs œuvres.
Pochoiristes reconnus pour la précision de leur trait et la finesse de la découpe, entièrement réalisée à la main, les Monkey Bird sont spécialisés dans les représentations d’architectures métaphysiques où l’Oiseau (« Blow ») et le Singe (« Temor ») cohabitent. S’inspirant à la fois des traités de géométrie, de mécanique, de cosmologie et d’astronomie, ils déclinent leur travail en utilisant toutes sortes de médiums et supports, utilisant également l’enluminure et de la calligraphie. Par ailleurs, ils ont l'obsession de réintroduire une présence animale sur les murs des villes.

Monkey Bird is the association of two French artists, who have chosen to transcribe social themes into wall fables, thanks to the representation of totem animals with elaborate symbolism.
The bird is used as a personification of the human soul from which derive the notions of freedom, escape and mind games. The monkey refers to the primitive human condition and the means used to resist our own nature. It therefore echoes the principles of architecture and social apparatus.
The Monkey Birds encourage man to find the right balance between his material obsessions and his fantasies of freedom, in order to build himself as a social animal. Their inspiration is mainly drawn from sacred or lyrical works such as illuminations, stained glass, architectural ornamentation but also from the fantastic illustrations of the "Arts and Crafts" period or Japanese prints.
The two artists began working in the street before taking over the walls of museums and institutions. They do not abandon their first place of expression and multiply the techniques and the plastic experiments according to the selected space: stencils, engravings, linocuts, research of subtractions of the matter, drawings, cuttings or posters in glass canvas. Artists with a striking graphic originality, they feed the international urban landscape with the poetry of their works.
Stencil artists known for the precision of their line and the finesse of their cut-outs, entirely handmade, Monkey Bird specialize in representations of metaphysical architectures where the Bird ("Blow") and the Monkey ("Temor") cohabit. Inspired by treatises on geometry, mechanics, cosmology and astronomy, they use all sorts of mediums and supports in their work, including illumination and calligraphy. Moreover, they are obsessed with reintroducing an animal presence on city walls.
