Norman font in St Lawrence's church, Eyam.

"The so called ‘Norman’ font is something of a mystery; its lead lined bowl is clearly of some antiquity but its exterior and the stone matches more closely the character of the late Victorian stonework. This might have been explained by a text in J C Cox that suggests that an over zealous mason in the 1882 restoration will have ‘shaved‘ the original ‘Norman’ font (which as illustrated in Wood’s is clearly late Norman or by dint of its smaller bowl even later medieval in style)."
