The Sisters of St. Francis Convent was established in Hankinson in 1928. After decades of the nuns running a school in the convent the school closed. In 2011 the Sisters opened the St. Frances Retreat Center and Providence Auditorium, giving new life to an old building, as reported by Wendy Reuer in the Dickinson Press, (visit link) .
