[EN] The Palace of the Infantado is an Elizabethan Gothic-style building with Renaissance elements that was ordered to be built by Íñigo López de Mendoza y Luna, at the end of the 15th century.

Its style is completely Hispanic, because although part of the decoration and structure of the balconies or portals are Gothic in the Flemish tradition, many other decorative elements and the arrangement of openings in the facade belong to Mudejar art.

The main facade, facing west, is one of the jewels of civil Gothic art. The most outstanding decorative elements are diamond tips on the entire facade; the top floor, which crowns the facade, presents a continuous gallery of alternate balconies and sentry boxes. The main entrance door to the building is on this facade, but off-center, located on the far left, corresponding to the interior patio. It is flanked by two thick cylindrical columns that have two individual collars of interwoven cords between them.

The central courtyard, called Los Leones, is rectangular in shape, slightly elongated from south to north, since seven arches appear on the east and west sides, compared to five that only appear on the adjacent ones. It is made up of double superimposed arches, made up of ogee arches with straight lines and curves in the lower gallery; In the upper gallery there are similar arches with a couple of lateral recesses that become even more complicated and broken. The columns that support the arcade are of the Tuscan order.

The Mudejar coffered ceilings inside the building that disappeared during the Civil War were also famous.

Currently the building houses the Provincial Museum of Guadalajara, where the archaeological remains found in the province are deposited.
