La iglesia se construyó a principios del s. XVI cuando se ordenó la construcción de templos en las tierras conquistadas tras la caída de Ronda en 1485. Desde entonces ha sufrido importantes remodelaciones en los siglos XVII, XVIII y, debido a los desperfectos ocasionados por la ocupación napoleónica, también en el s. XIX.
El interior está organizado en tres naves separadas por arcos. La nave principal está cubierta por una bóveda mientras que las laterales tienen el techo plano. La capilla mayor es cuadrada y ambos lados se sitúan dos capillas más pequeñas.
En su interior, encontramos una imagen de la titular de la parroquia y patrona del municipio, Nuestra Señora del Rosario, así como una talla de madera policromada del también patrón de la localidad, San Francisco de Asís. Es interesante también la lámpara de plata del siglo XVIII que decora el interior.
El elemento más sobresaliente de su arquitectura exterior es, sin lugar a dudas, la torre, de planta cuadrada y tres cuerpos de altura. El campanario ocupa el tercio superior y tiene cuatro arcos ocupados por una campana y un pequeño balcón en cada uno de ellos. El conjunto está rematado por una cúpula revestida de cerámica azul, uno de los símbolos más reconocibles de la Serranía de Ronda.Iglesia del siglo XVI que consta de tres naves de medio punto separadas por columnas. Las naves laterales tienen el techo plano.
La fachada principal presenta una portada de ladrillo y sobre ésta un frontón partido con una cruz. La torre es cuadrada y el cuerpo final, donde está emplazado el campanario tiene una cubierta semiesférica de cerámica.
En su interior hay algunas obras de arte del siglo XVIII. Según la tradición fue edificada sobre el que fue palacio de Algatoisa, hija de un rey musulmán.

Inside, we find an image of the head of the parish and patron saint of the municipality, Nuestra Señora del Rosario, as well as a polychrome wood carving of the patron saint of the town, San Francisco de Asís. The 18th century silver lamp that decorates the interior is also interesting.
The most outstanding element of its exterior architecture is, without a doubt, the tower, with a square floor plan and three bodies high. The bell tower occupies the upper third and has four arches occupied by a bell and a small balcony in each of them. The main façade has a brick doorway and on it a split pediment with a cross. The tower is square and the final body, where the bell tower is located, has a hemispherical ceramic cover.
Inside there are some works of art from the 18th century. According to tradition, it was built on what was the palace of Algatoisa, daughter of a Muslim king.
