A monument featuring a 7.5' by 5.5' by 2.25' bronze sculpture called The Hiker stands on a 5.5' by 6' by 6' granite base. The sculpture was created by Theo Alice Ruggles Kitson and cast by the Gorham Manufacturing Company, foundry. The monument was dedicated November 23, 1941.
The sculpture depicts a He is holding his rifle vertically and down with both arms. His proper right hand is near the stock and his left hand is on the barrel. He is wearing wide-brimmed hat, his shirt is open at the neck, and sleeves rolled up above the elbows. He has a cartridge belt around his waist and straps cross his chest. A knapsack is worn over his right shoulder and left hip. A canteen is at his right hip.
A bronze plaque on front of base is inscribed:

TO THE VETERANS OF THE SPANISH AMERICAN WAR
