The school in the small rural community of Weddeburn dates to 1892. At his time, the community was in a very remote location and isolated during periods of heavy rain when the creek flooded. The school was not occupied continually and closed for some periods.

The current weatherboard schoolroom was moved here in 1936 and remained in use up to the closing of the the school in 1976. At this time access to the nearby schools in Campbelltown was considered more desirable than having children educated in a small school.

The building is in good condition as it is maintained as a writers retreat and was also used as a Field Studies Centre. It is now owned by the local council.
