Wooden font cover in St Lawrence's church, Barton.

In 1896 the present church was built at a cost of £4438, designed by R. Knill Freeman of Bolton. Internal changes saw the installation and consecration of a new font and cover in 1962.

The font cover is fairly plain octagonal in shape, with quarterfoil piercings carved midway up each panel and a plain turned finial at the apex. A brass dedicatory plaque on the cover reads -

GIVEN TO BARTON CHURCH BY
FRANCES RAWDON, IN AFFECTIONATE
REMEMBRANCE OF HER OLD NURSE,
S. H. JURY, NOV. 27, 1896.
